The only natural source of permanent indigo/blue available to us comes from the plant indigofera. For an indigo vat to be healthy requires it to be fed, to be attended to twice a day, to be maintained at the right temperature, and to be put to work optimally. Indigo shades do not get darker by longer dips. In order to make a garment darker, multiple dips and oxidisation are required.
